Ahmedabad: The Airports Authority of India on Saturday said that Adani Group will take over management of Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport from today. The procedure to hand over the SVPI Airport to the private player was completed on Friday.

It may be mentioned that Adani had taken over the management of Lucknow Airport a few days back. The Adani Group has been given the right to operate the airport for 50 years.

Taking it to Twitter, SVPI Airport said that the process to hand over the key of the airport will be held at midnight.

"Airports Authority of India has completed handing over the procedure of SVPI Airport to Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Ltd (AAIAL). At midnight tonight, the ceremonial Handing Over of the Key to AAIAL will mark the new chapter for Ahmedabad Airport," the airport said in a tweet on Friday.

The government had in last year put six airports operated by the Airports Authority of India for privatization in PPP mode. Adani emerged as the top bidder for Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Lucknow, Mangalore and Jaipur airports.

The management of the airport was acquired through aggressive bidding of high passenger fees of 177,174,171,168 and 115 rupees. After winning the bid, Adani Group will pay Rs 177 per passenger to the Airports Authority of India for the operation of the airport.

Security has been beefed up after SVPI Airport was handed over to the Adani group. Along with CISF, a modified security force has also been deployed at the Ahmedabad airport by the Adani group. This step by Adani Group is expected to strengthen and expand the airport business.
