New Delhi: For the last two years he used to see the Congress scion Rahul Gandhi coming in and out of his erstwhile official residence at 12 Tughlak Lane in New Delhi. His political detractors might have dubbed Rahul as a misfit in electoral politics or as someone who speaks without thinking. He has even been accused by the BJP of insulting India abroad because of his 'democracy in danger' speech in UK.
However, to the middle-aged ice cream vendor Chetan, Rahul Gandhi was never a high-profile politician. To him, Rahul was a mild-mannered person who waved at him with a friendly smile on his face every time he saw him while coming in and out of his house.
However, things changed after Rahul was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following his conviction in a criminal defamation case in a Surat over his comments on the Modi surname. Since then Chetan has not been able to see Rahul much.

" I have been selling ice cream here for two years. But it all feels very empty now. He used to wave at me with a pleasant smile on his face whenever he saw me. These days I don't get to see him at all, " said Chetan.
According to security officials posted outside the bungalow, despite being given 30 days' notice, Rahul has already started to shift his belongings from the bungalow. "Although 30 days time was given to the Congress leader, he has started vacating process for the last couple of days. It will take some time to shift his office and house items to his new location," said a security officer posted outside the 12 Tughlak Lane residence.
Rahul was served an eviction notice after he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following his conviction in a criminal defamation case. He was allotted the Tughlak Lane residence in 2004 after he won his first Lok Sabha poll from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Sources close to the Congress leader told ETV Bharat that it will take a few more days for the total shift to 10 Janpath.
