Cop takes Rs 50 lakh bribe, gets caught red-handed

A police constable was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakhs from ACB Anand. It is suspected that the police constable is involved in Khambhat fertilizer scam.

Khambhat: In a joint operation of Ahmedabad Rural LCB and Anand District LCB team, Prakash Singh Raul, a police constable on duty in RR Cell at Khambhat police station was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakhs from ACB Anand on December 31, according to sources.

Based on the preliminary information it is suspected that the police constable is involved in Khambhat fertilizer scam.

Ahmedabad Rural Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Anand Local Crime Branch Office (LCB) carried out the operation based on the accused bribe giver's complaint on Prakash demanding bribe.

The ACB set a trap and Prakash was seen accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakhs at a restaurant on Vidyanagar road.

It is also suspected that the police constable posses disproportionate assets. The ACB would file a case against Prakash Singh Raol and initiate the investigation.

The case is regarded as one of the most successful operations carried out by Gujarat police.
