Tirunelveli: A 90-year-old woman won in the Panchayat President election and her supporters carried her on their shoulders and expressed their joy. Local body elections were held between October 6 and 9 for nine districts across Tamil Nadu. The counting of votes is underway.
DMK is set to register a sweeping victory in this local body elections. In this scenario, a 90-year-old woman contested for the post of Sivanthipatty Panchayat President within the Palayankottai Panchayat Union in Tirunelveli District and came up triumphant. While the two of her opponents lost deposits, 90-year-old Perumathal won by a thousand votes over the second-place finisher. Earlier while collecting her certificate in person, Perumathal thanked the villagers who voted for her. Following that, her supporters, who had gathered there carried her on their shoulders and expressed their joy, and sent her back home safely.
