Bhiwadi (Rajasthan): In spite of giving dowry for his daughter's marriage, a 50-year-old man on Saturday allegedly committed suicide at Padla village under Khol police limits in Rajasthan's Rewadi district by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.
The deceased person has been identified as Kailash Singh of Budhi Bawal village in Bhiwadi district.
According to reports, at around 7 am on Saturday, the man was found hanging inside the office of his brother-in-law, Chetram at Padla village. The incident came to light when Chetram's staff came to the office.
The deceased's family said that he was constantly harassed by the boy's family as they wanted more dowry for marriage.
On being informed by the locals, Biwadi police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to a nearby hospital for the post-mortem.
A suicide note recovered by police
Ram Shankar, IIC, Bhiwadi police station, told ETV Bharat that they have recovered a suicide note from the spot and it is reportedly, written by the deceased. As per the IIC, the deceased had mentioned his state of mind in the suicide note.
Ramshankar said, "We found a suicide note, where he has mentioned that he was constantly harassed by his daughter's would-be in-laws over dowry demand. His daughter's marriage was fixed on November 25 but he could not arrange the hefty amount of money for it. Hence, he was ending his life."
Ramshankar said that they are still investigating the case. The police have registered a case for dowry harassment, abetment to suicide and other relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
