Kabaddi promoter Kamaljit Kang shot at outside home in Canada's Surrey; attack caught on camera

The SUV-borne assailants are seen waiting outside Kang's house on the driveway and as soon as Kang comes out, the assailants are seen opening fire on him and fleeing in the car from the spot.

Chandigarh: President of the Kabaddi Federation of Canada and former member of the North India Circle Style Kabaddi Association, Kamaljit Kang alias Neetu Kang was shot at by unidentified assailants outside his house in Surrey on Friday, sources said. According to media reports, the Kabaddi promoter received two bullets during the attack.

Kamaljit was admitted to the hospital in an injured condition, where his condition is being described as critical by the doctors. The incident has been caught on the CCTV camera. In the purported CCTV footage, the SUV-borne assailants can be seen waiting outside Kang's house on the driveway. As soon as Kang comes out, the assailants are seen opening fire on him and fleeing in the car from the spot.

Kang was left injured in a pool of blood. He was later shifted the hospital for treatment. Reports said that a team of police was later rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the assailants. Police is also examining the CCTV footage to zero in on the car used in the attack and nab the attackers. However, no arrests were made at the time this report was filed.

Kang is considered to be a big name in the Kabaddi circuit both in Canada where he is settled for two decades now as well as India back home. Pertinently, the attack on Kang in Canada comes three days after Jalandhar Police arrested an accused in connection with the murder of Punjab's international Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian back home in India.

The accused identified as Surjanjit Singh Chatha was arrested on Wednesday night in the case and taken into custody. It can be recalled that Ambian was shot dead by unidentified attackers during a kabaddi match at Malian village of Jalandhar on Mar. 14 last year. Sandeep's wife Rupinder Kaur had later taken to social media appealing police to arrest the assailants in the case.
