Jerusalem: With a hope that peace will be restored amid tension in Gaza, Muslim community in Jerusalem is all geared up to observe holy month of Ramadan.

Mideast gears up for Ramadan observance

In a recent outbreak of a two-day long violence in Gaza, 25 people both militants and civilians were killed.

Militants fired over 400 rockets into southern Israel and Israel retaliated with dozens of airstrikes against militant sites in Gaza.

After the weekend of violence, both Gaza and Israel on May 6 reached a ceasefire agreement.

"What is happening in Gaza is very painful for us and we hope there will be peace in this city," said Ammar Sidr, who lives in Jerusalem.

Ramadan is a special month for Muslims everywhere, not only in the holy city of Jerusalem.

During Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and smoking during the daylight hours, breaking the fast with a festive meal after sunset.
