Istanbul: The secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation told an emergency meeting of its 57 members that the attack on mosques in Christchurch in which 49people were killed had dangerous consequences.
Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said the attack sent a message "that the speech of hatred and extremism and Islamophobia has become dangerous and threatens the security of stable communities."
"What happened in New Zealand is a horrible act and has dangerous consequences on the world. This terrorist attack has shocked and wounded the feelings of Muslims and the entire human beings. Whatever the motive of this attack was, whoever committed it is a terrorist and deserves the most severe punishment.
