Hyderabad: It may sound weird, but selfie which has become a daily affair for every occasion is five times more deadly than shark attack.
According to a report prepared by India's Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, as many as 259 people were killed in between October 2011 to November 2017 while taking selfies globally where as only 50 people died in shark attacks during the period.
Selfies are mostly taken by women, the report said, adding that, youths who are ready to take risk for a picture perfect contribute three quarters of the deaths related to selfies. The deaths are mainly caused by drowning, falls, shooting accident or crashes.
With population more than 1.3 billion and 800 million smart phones, India tops the list with 159 deaths related to selfie so far. After the situation became grim, India was forced to set up "no selfie" zone – 16 of them in Mumbai alone.
