Baghdad: Iraq's government said that they had tried to stop US government from blacklisting Iran's Revolutionary Guard Crops as a 'terrorist organisation'. Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi said that it on Tuesday saying that this might have a negative consequences for the nation.

Adel Abdul-Mahdi said that Iraq will continue to invest in its relationship with both the US and Iran, despite the White House designation on Monday. The Iraqi premier said that his government spoke to the US administration about the label.

After branding Iran corps with the title of terrorists, the US government has made it clear that if anyone teams up or deals with the Iran Revolutionary Guard will face US imprisonement. Speaking at his weekly news conference on Tuesday, Abdul-Mahdi said that Iraq as Iran's neighbour to the west could not afford to be the site of conflict between rival powers.

Some 5,200 U.S. troops are stationed in Iraq, after the Iraqi parliament invited Washington to deploy forces to fight the Islamic State group in 2014.
