Sao Paulo: A laser rainbow was projected into the sky over Sao Paulo on Sunday, to symbolize the presence of the LGBTQ community, who couldn't attend Pride this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Puerto Rican artist Yvette Mattern decided to shine the colours of the rainbow flag to highlight LGBTQ visibility in Brazil.
Normally hundreds of thousands of people would fill the streets of Sao Paulo for its world-famous Pride parade, but since the COVID-19 outbreak, events with large crowds have been prohibited to curb the spread of the virus.
LGBTQ people in Brazil suffer one of the highest levels of violence in the world according to the Grupo Gay de Bahia association, which register statistics about the number of killings and suicides of LGBTQ people in the country, 297 people were killed and 32 committed suicide in 2019.
