Algerians protest for 8th straight Friday

Protest organisers encouraged Algerians to come out in Algiers or other cities to show that they're not satisfied with the departure of longtime President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and want wholesale political change.

Algiers: Algerians, not satisfied with the departure of longtime President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, took to the streets of Algiers for an eighth straight Friday to march against the country's leadership.

The protesters are angry with military chief General Ahmed Gaid Salah, who was instrumental in Bouteflika's departure but later on threw his support behind interim President Abdelkader Bensalah, seen as part of the old regime.

Earlier this week Bensalah was named interim President and new elections were announced for July 4.

Protesters are appealing to both Bensalah and the military chief to step down.
