Hyderabad: The Kerala Story, starring Bollywood actor Adah Sharma, has generated a lot of interest since its release and became a box-office hit. Helmed by Sudipto Sen, the movie had already surpassed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark. As per an industry tracker, the film brought in Rs 23 crore on its tenth day, bringing its overall box office earnings to a remarkable Rs 136 crore.

If the movie can keep up its momentum, it will soon take over Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, as the year's second-biggest hit. In India, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar made about Rs 177 crore. According to reports, the controversial film had a 54.68 per cent Hindi occupancy in cinema halls on Sunday.

The film has been making headlines right from the release of its trailer. The Kerala Story courted controversy for botching up figures of the number of female Muslim converts who were allegedly radicalised by fundamentalists. The makers had initially stated the figure to be 32,000. The number, however, was revised from 32,000 to three in response to numerous online and offline protests.

Despite the wave of protests, The Kerala Story is still doing strong at the box office and has established itself as a legitimate hit. Following the success of Shah Rukh Khan's comeback movie Pathaan and the romantic comedy Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, The Kerala Story is emerging as the third biggest hit of the year so far. If it continues to pull the audience, the film bankrolled by Vipul Shah is likely to dethrone Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar as the second biggest hit of 2023.
