New Delhi: General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy in conversation with the ETV Bharat reporter said that CPI is confident about Kanhaiya Kumar's win in Begusarai.
" The chances look very good for Kanhaiya Kumar as he is bringing a change to the society. He is cutting across the lines of caste and religion and is getting support from all sections of the society. We are confident of him winning the Begusarai seat" said Reddy who was on a week-long campaign in Bihar for Kanhaiya.
He was accompanied by Bollywood celebrities Swara Bhaskar, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi and other leaders of the left-leaning parties of CPIM and CPI-ML.
"Surely it would have played an important role in Kanhaiya securing a victory from Begusarai. The RJD should have been considerate of the fact that our main goal is to defeat the BJP and hence I also requested the RJD supremo Tejaswi Yadav to retire the candidate Tanvir Hasan from the Begusarai seat," said Reddy.
He further explained how it would have been mutually beneficial even for the RJD had they supported Kanhaiya's candidature and kept them in the mahagathbandhan.
" The CPI has around 1,00,000 votes and all seats would have been a clear vote transfer to RJD, so it would have been beneficial for them as well. But I don't know what happened and why they decided to keep us out."
The CPI leader also lashed out at BJP leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh for his recent statement where he said that green flags should be banned for campaigns as it makes him feel like 'he is in Pakistan'.
