How are Pune's old age homes fighting Covid?

Pune is commonly referred to as Pensioners City as the city has 20 old age homes. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of 43 people in Pune of which the number of elderly people who died is high. Despite these numbers, allegedly not many measures are visible from Pune Municipal Corporation. Pune Municipal Corporation Mayor Muralidhar Mohol clarified that the corporation is in touch with the organisations that run the old age home and care for the senior citizens at all levels.

Pune (Maharashtra): Coronavirus has claimed the lives of 43 people in Pune. In this, the number of elderly people who died is high. Despite these numbers, not many measures are visible from Pune Municipal Corporation. Pune is commonly referred to as Pensioners City. The city has 20 old age homes.

One such old-age home is Nivara which accommodates 140 senior citizens and their health is being taken care of very well. According to Ravindra Marathe, Director of Nivara, social contact is being avoided and social distancing is being practised at the old age home. He also added that regular health check-ups of senior citizens are carried every two to three days.

"Despite the increasing number of Corona cases in Pune, where the health of senior citizens needs special attention, the Pune Municipal Corporation has neither provided any assistance to the old age home nor contacted Nivara", added Marathe.

Pune Municipal Corporation Mayor Muralidhar Mohol clarified that the corporation is in touch with the organisations that run the old age home and care for the senior citizens at all levels. The mayor has urged to contact the PMC in case anyone has doubts about this. Reportedly, with the increasing number of Corona positive patients, the corporation needs to take measures for senior citizens.
