New Delhi: After several parts of Bihar submerged in flood, Bihar's Water Resources Minister Sanjay Jha met Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat today.
During the meeting, Jha requested to open all the gates of Farakka Barrage and also urged to speed up the water flow.
"Due to lack of proper evacuation of water from the Farakka dam in Bihar, the water level of Ganga has increased rapidly, resulting in a flood situation in many areas of the state," said Jha.
However, the areas like Begusarai, Patna, Munger, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga and Chapra has been witnessing the worst due to flood.
Responding over the concern of Mr Jha, Union Minister assured to open all the gates of Farraka barrage at the earliest.
Recently, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar spoke to the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary PK Mishra about the increase in the water level of Ganga in Bihar due to the Farakka barrage.
As per report, altogether 13 districts have been hit by the heavy rainfall, Sitamarhi with 37 casualties, topped the list followed by Madhubani (40), Araria (20), Darbhanga (22), Sheohar (15) Purnea (nine), Kishanganj (seven), Muzaffarpur (four), East Supaul (three), Champaran (two) and Saharsa (one).
