New Delhi: In a strange incident, the Income-tax department has issued the same Permanent Account Number (PAN) to two different persons, resulting in difficulties during filing of the income tax return
Rajesh, a resident of Jaipur, allotted PAN -AOTPR0314P, had filed an income tax return for the financial year 2017-18 with the given PAN number.
Later, he came to know that someone also has the same PAN number as he could not able to file a tax return for this year.
"I have filed a complaint with the Income Tax department several times but no positive response has been given by the department till date," Rajesh said.
According to the procedure of filing Income tax, the return should be filed with the same PAN which was used for filing in the previous financial year.
Meanwhile, a financial expert claimed that it is impossible that the IT department has issued the same PAN number to different persons, as the number is generated by computers.
"In case anyone claims for such an incident, I suggest him to complain through e-mail, not by the call. Also, the person must attach the snap of his PAN card in the mail," said financial expert.
