Auto majors report zero sales in domestic market in April

Automobile companies have reported zero sales in the domestic market in April due to the nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus pandemic.

New Delhi: Automobile companies have reported zero sales in the domestic market in April due to the nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus pandemic.

Maruti sells zero units in domestic market in April

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said it did not sell a single unit in the domestic market last month due to coronavirus-led nationwide lockdown.

The company had zero sales in the domestic market in April 2020, MSI said in a statement.

The company, however, exported 632 units from Mundra port following resumption of port operations.

The company said the units were dispatched ensuring all safety guidelines.

MG Motor retails zero units in April

MG Motor India also retailed zero units in April as dealerships remained closed due to the nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus pandemic.

The carmaker, which began operations and manufacturing on a small scale at its facility in Halol in the last week of April 2020, hopes that production will ramp-up in the month of May and is working on the local supply-chain support.

The company is gearing up for working as per norms, including sanitisation and social distancing, the automaker said.

Mahindra reports zero sales

Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has sold zero units in the domestic market in April.

It, however, dispatched 733 vehicles to overseas markets during the last month.

At Mahindra, we are working hand in hand with all stakeholders, especially our dealer and supplier partners, to get our ecosystem started, once the lockdown is lifted," M&M Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division Veejay Nakrasaid.

The safety of employees will be of paramount importance to the company while resuming operations, he added.

M&M tractor sales down 83% to 4,772 units in April

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) also reported 83 per cent decline in total tractor sales at 4,772 units in April with lockdown impacting sales.

The company had sold a total of 28,552 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a statement.

Domestic tractor sales were down 83 per cent at 4,716 units last month as against 27,495 units in April 2019, it added.

Exports were at 56 units last month as compared to 1,057 units in the year-ago period, a decline of 95 per cent, the company said.

Royal Enfield reports sale of 91 units in April

Niche bike manufacturer Royal Enfield sold 91 units last month due to suspension of production activities amid coronavirus pandemic.

Hyundai reports nil sales in domestic market last month

Hyundai Motor India said it sold zero units last month in the domestic market due to suspension of manufacturing activities amid the nationwide lockdown.

The company, however, exported 1,341 units last month.

Toyota India reports zero sales

The prolonged nationwide lockdown to contain the coronavirus spread resulted in zero sales for Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) in India during April, an official said.

The city-based auto major sold 7,023 cars and exported 999 units of Etios model in March before the first phase of the 21-day lockdown was enforced on March 25.

In contrast, the company sold 12,818 units in the domestic market and exported 844 Etios cars the same month a year ago (2019).
