Identity crisis: Uttarakhand's Dhol Damau battles to preserve existence

International Students are coming to Uttarakhand to learn the customary drumming called Dhol Damau. Recently students from USA's Suncity University have come to Devprayag and Ghansali to learn this customary drumming.

Tehri:Uttarakhand, often referred to as the Devabhumi (literally 'Land of the Gods'), is a place where different traditions and culture abodes.

The state also homes a myriad forms of art and music.

Dhol Damau, an ancient musical instrument native to the state, is played on special occasions and has originated from Lord Shiva's Dumroo.

Nowadays, when 'Band Bajas' and DJs are prominently seen in marriages and other ceremonies, traditional drummers are facing livelihood crisis.

When Dhol Damau is fighting a battle to preserve its existence in its own state, students from other countries are coming here to learn and understand Uttarakhand's culture.
