New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Saturday staged a protest outside the Petroleum Ministry at Shastri Bhawan, demanding a cut down in the fuel prices.
"The Modi government has done nothing in the last seven years. The government is only giving 'jumla' (rhetoric) to divert the people's attention from real issues but this will not happen anymore. The farmers are sitting on roads, housewives are facing difficulty to cook food from the LPG cylinders due to a hike in prices," said Srinivas BV, national president, national president, IYC.
Citing the petrol price crossing the Rs 100 mark, Srinivas said "Modi hai to mehngai hai (Inflation is because of Modi). This is just a symbolic protest, if the government don't roll back the fuel and LPG prices, then we will call for a nationwide protest."
The IYC members staged the symbolic protest by cooking food and boiling tea using firewood.
Petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the twelfth day in a row on Saturday. Day after crossing the Rs 90 mark, petrol prices in Delhi rose to Rs 90.58 per litre with an increase of 39 paise.
