Man rapes and kills widow in Tripura

A man was arrested after he sexually tortured a woman reportedly known to him before killing her in Tripura. The man took poison when police tried to arrest him before he was rushed to a hospital

Agartala: A fifty-year-old woman was hacked to death after she was sexually tortured in the northeastern state of Tripura. She was found dead in her kitchen on the day of Holi.

A man identified as Dulal Das was nabbed by the police in Udaipur, a city in Tripura, two days after the incident took place in Sepahijala district.

Police quoting local people said, Das was absconding after the incident. “In all likelihood, he left his village in West Nalchar soon after he committed the crime," police said.

We went to Udaipur after some of his friends said he could have gone to the house of his in-laws'." said a police officer.

“We spotted him right in front of the residence of his in-laws. As soon as he sensed that he was about to be caught, he took poison before the police rushed him to hospital”, said investigating Officer Palash Datta.

Some sources said that both the woman and her attacker had drinks together at her residence as they were in an illicit relationship. Locals claimed that Das's wife left him a few days back owing to his relationship with the woman.
