Tripura govt approves proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to schoolgirls

Tripura Education Minister Ratanlal Nath announced that the state government has approved a proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to all girls from class sixth to twelfth. The minister said that a packet of sanitary napkins costs Rs 28-35 in the open market.

Agartala (Tripura): Tripura Education Minister Ratanlal Nath announced that the state government has approved a proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to all girls from CLASS 6 -12. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb shared the news through his official Twitter handle on Thursday.

The minister said that a packet of sanitary napkins costs Rs 28-35 in the open market. Easing access to feminine hygiene products, the Government of Tripura has approved the proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to school girls in the state in an effort to promote menstrual health.#NariShakti4NewIndia#7YearsOfSeva" Deb tweeted.

According to sources, through the scheme, 1.68 lakh students studying in 4,940 government schools and 1,000 odd private and aided schools will be benefitted. Both types of schools will be brought under the ambit of the scheme. Sources privy to the information also told reporters that the government had allocated Rs 3.61 crore for the implementation of the scheme.
