Trainee aircraft crashes in Telangana, one pilot killed, Scindia expresses grief

A trainee aircraft on Saturday crashed in the Nalgonda district of Telangana. Both the pilot and co-pilot were confirmed dead in the crash. Police sources said that the aircraft belonging to a private aviation training firm, had crashed into agricultural fields on Saturday morning.

Nalgonda (Telangana): A woman trainee pilot was killed when a trainer aircraft belonging to a private flying academy crashed in the Nalgonda district of Telangana on Saturday. According to police, the incident took place at Ramannagudem Thanda in Peddavoora Mandal of the district. Police, district revenue officials, and medical personnel have reached the spot.

Expressing grief over the incident, Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that he was shocked.

"Shocked to hear about the tragic crash of a training aircraft in Nalgonda, Telangana. An investigation team has been rushed to the site. Unfortunately, we lost the student pilot. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family & loved ones" tweeted Scindia.

Police sources said that the aircraft belonging to a private aviation training company had crashed into agricultural fields on Saturday morning. They further revealed that the trainee pilot died on the spot.

Telangana police rushed to the spot after being alerted by farmers working in the fields at Tungaturthi village of Peddavoora Mandal in Nalgonda district. Eyewitnesses said that the aircraft was flying from Nagarjuna Sagar when it crashed to the ground and erupted in flames around 11.30 am.

"Mahima, a female pilot, left Hyderabad at 10.30 am on a training flight as part of a training flight from a private aviation academy in Macharla. On her way to Ramannagudem Tanda from Nagarjunasagar, the aircraft lost control and crashed at around 10.50 am on Saturday. It was a two-seater Cessna 152 aircraft, used for training. So far this has come up during the preliminary investigation," Rema Rajeswari, Nalgonda Superintendent of Police said.

Local farmers said they heard a loud noise while working in the field and saw smoke billowing out from a nearby area.

"We rushed to the spot to see whether the crop was burning and saw that an airplane is burning. We immediately informed the police, " they said.
