Srinagar: A fierce gunfight erupted between militants and security forces in Shermal area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday evening. However, the militants have managed to escape and the encounter came to an end on Sunday morning.
A joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Shermal on Saturday. As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. As the night approached, officials said that the operation was put on hold even though the security forces have closed all the exit points of the area.
