New Delhi: Just a day ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Congress president Sonia Gandhi chaired a virtual meeting of party's Lok Sabha MPs to prepare a strategy in order to corner the government on various issues. In this Monsoon Session, which will be commenced from July 19, Congress is expected to raise the issues of Rafale, mismanagement of Covid-19 pandemic, inflation, fuel price rise among a few others.

"Sonia Gandhi ji has asked all the MPs to be present in the Parliament throughout the session. She has also asserted that there should be proper coordination among the MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to raise the country's issues in a more effective manner," an MP told ETV Bharat.

Earlier on Sunday, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge convened Opposition parties meeting, where Congress expressed its view to first take up the issue of price rise and hike in prices of petroleum products. However, the other Opposition parties expressed their intention to move an adjournment motion to discuss the ongoing farmers’ agitation.

A Congress MP informed that the party will demand a full discussion on the fuel price hike and inflation, and substantial relief for the people, due to which disruptions are expected in the houses. In an interesting move, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has reconstituted its Parliamentary hierarchy in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha where the names of dissenting leaders of G-23 got featured in some key positions.

The two new faces which have been included in the reconstitution of the Lok Sabha group are Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tiwari. Meanwhile, in Rajya Sabha, Ambika Soni, P Chidambaram, and Digvijaya Singh make up the members. On the other hand, the party made it clear that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will remain at the position of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha for this session of the Parliament.
