Bengaluru: Going forward government employees in Karnataka will neither get a promotion nor increment if they do not clear computer examination. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has issued a diktat to its employees that they need to be computer literate in view of keeping up with the digital era.
The employees are required to clear the examination by March 22 next year. Those who do not clear the exam will be disqualified from the probationary period and ruled out of the promotion and annual salary increment, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms stated.

Only those posts mentioned under Rule 1 (3) of the Karnataka Civil Service (Computer Literacy Test) are exempted from taking the computer test. For the rest, the exam will be conducted through the Karnataka State Electronics Development (keonics), approved by the state government.
