New Delhi: Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse a group of farmers who had gathered to stage a strong protests against a meeting of the BJP state executive that was being held in Karnal, Haryana, resulting in one death and injuries to several others. The protesting farmers also pelted stones at the policemen.
Following the incident Saturday, Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union and farmer leader, tweeted: “The more farmers' blood flows, the stronger the farmers will be!”
According to Tikait, the government is conspiring to divert attention from the Mahapanchayat of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to be held in Muzaffarnagar September 5.
Four farmers and 10 policemen were injured in the Karnal incident. One of the injured farmers died Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Sushil Kajal, who was a resident of Raipur Jattan village in Gharaunda, Karnal.
