Ranchi/Chaibasa: Former BJP MLA Gurcharan Nayak had a miraculous escape today in a Naxalite attack against him in the Jhilruva village of Jharkhand. However, the attack claimed two of his three bodyguards, who were guarding him during the incident.
The incident took place during a football competition in the Naxalite prone area in Chaibasa district, where he was invited as a guest.
The slain bodyguards were identified as Shankar Nayak and Thakur Hembram, whereas the third one named Ram Kumar is seriously injured and receiving treatment.
The Naxalites reportedly looted the weapons from the bodyguards and attempted an attack with them while the MLA was just about to leave after the sports event was over. The looted weapons included AK47 rifles and cartridges.
"At around 5:15 pm, I was about to enter my car after the event was over when about 15 to 20 Naxalites attempted the attack. I ran with the crowd, into the fields and somehow escaped the attack," Gurucharan Nayak informed while talking to the Press.
The Naxalites immediately fled the spot after the attack. An investigation into the case has been initiated.
Gurcharan Nayak is the former MLA and BJP leader of Manoharpur assembly in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
