Mysuru/Bangalore: Keeping the Covid-19 pandemic in mind, the Karnataka govt has issued new guidelines for Mysuru Dasara as well as the state-wide Dasara festival celebration. Mysore Dasara is the state festival (Nadahabba) of Karnataka. It is a 10-day festival, starting with nine nights called 'Navaratri' and ends with the day 'Vijayadashami'. This year, Mysuru Dasara will begin on October 7 and it will be going to end on October 15.

Former chief minister SM Krishna will inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara festival this year on October 7. The Karnataka government's new guidelines for Mysuru Dasara are: Only 100 people will be allowed to enter Chamundi Hill where Goddess Chamundeshwari will be worshipped. Only 500 can participate in the world-famous 'Jambu Savari' (elephant procession) on October 15, which is the highlight of Mysuru Dasara. For cultural programmes, the limit is just 500 people.

Local artists will be given prominence for the cultural events. Cultural programme organisers should allow people only who come from Mysuru & other districts of the state. Outsiders should bring a Covid RTPCR report. All participants, including media persons, artists & deployed security forces, officers, staff should undergo the Covid test after October 4 & bring RTPCR negative report. And, they should bring at least the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination certificate. Other Covid protocols such as compulsory masking and social distancing are already in place.

The guidelines for the state-wide Dasara celebration are: Only 400 people can participate in the Dasara festivities and programmes in other districts of the state. Programmes that will be held without social distance will be banned. Program organisers should follow all Covid protocols which are already in force. Organisers and the people must follow all directives and instructions issued by the Department of Health, Police Department, City Corporations, Fire Service Department, District and Local Authorities for the sake of public health.
