Ernakulam(Kerala): The internal issues within the Indian National League party, the Communist Party of India(Marxist)'s ally hit a new low after clashes erupted within the two-party factions on Sunday outside a hotel in Kochi. The tussle between supporters of state general secretary Qasim Irikur and supporters of state president AP Abdul Wahab got aggravated and party workers came to blows on the streets. Police have arrested activists involved in the tussle.
The State Secretariat and the Working Committee meeting ended inconclusively in a private hotel in Ernakulam. The meeting held in the presence of Minister Ahmed Devarkovil was dispersed after differences between the two factions. Allegedly, the row erupted after the move to decide the Minister's staff without consulting party members.

Police have registered a case against the private hotel for convening the meeting flouting Covid protocol. Sources said, the Central Police had issued notice against holding the meeting and it was ignored.
Reportedly, the rift within the party developed after Ahmed Devarkovil got appointed as Minister. Devarkovil is the first INL member to assume office as Minister. The ruling Left Democratic Front had sternly warned the party of adverse actions if disputes were not resolved.
