Nagpur: Income Tax raids have been going on at former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh's residence in Nagpur.
Yesterday, Delhi High Court has issued notice to the CBI while hearing the bail plea of CBI Sub-Inspector Abhishek Tiwari, who is accused of taking bribes for leaking CBI documents during the investigation against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The veteran Nationalist Congress Party leader had resigned as home minister after former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh levelled corruption allegations against him in a letter written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The case in brief
After Singh accused Deshmukh of putting pressure on the police officials to collect money worth Rs 100 crore, Singh lodged a petition in the Supreme Court in this regard. Following this, the apex court instructed Singh to appeal to the Bombay High Court.
As per the Bombay High Court order, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had conducted a preliminary inquiry in the case.
FIR against Deshmukh was also registered. Earlier also, searches were conducted at Deshmukh and his close aide's residences. The central agency also recorded statements of various persons. Meanwhile, the ED registered a money laundering case against him and initiated a probe.
