New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed the Lakhimpur Kheri clash. After the meeting, Mishra stated that he has not been asked to resign, nor he is quitting from the post. Teni's son Ashish Mishra has been booked in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
Teni, in an informal conversation with the media, said "I have not been asked to resign nor I am quitting my post. However, I assured the Union Minister of full support in the ongoing investigation in the Lakhimpur clash."
The Opposition has demanded action against the minister’s son, questioning why he has not been arrested or at least questioned yet despite being named in one of the FIRs filed on the clash. The Opposition has also called for the removal of the minister from the Union Cabinet.
According to sources, it is believed that all opposition parties are visiting only the house of farmers killed in the Lakhimpur clash and no one is worried about the other people who died in the incident. Most of these people belonged to Brahmin community and no opposition party has demanded compensation for them. Meanwhile, the ruling party is gearing for diplomatic approach to counter the opposition attack.
It looks like Lakhimpur incident could impact the 2022 Uttar Pradesh as well as Punjab assembly polls, following which the saffron party is trying to overcome this crisis tactfully.
Earlier it was reported that the official program of the Minister on Thursday has been postponed, following which speculations were being made that the Central Government may accept Teni's resignation. However, Teni dismissed the speculation after meeting the Home Minister in New Delhi today.
Meanwhile, a programme organised by the BPRD scheduled on Thursday has been postpended. Teni was the chief guest of the programme.
