Tral (Jammu & Kashmir): On July 8, 2016, Burhan Wani, the poster boy of militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and its top commander, was killed in an encounter by the security forces. Five years later, today, his father Muzaffar Ahmed Wani, hoisted the tri-colour at a school in Tral.
The Kashmir administration had recently directed all school heads to hoist the tricolour in their respective schools on the eve of Independence Day. Muzaffar Wani happens to be a school teacher. As he hoisted the tri-colour, other staff members of the school gathered in support.
After a long hunt for the young Burhan Wani, police and the 42 Rashtriya Rifles fhad finally tasted success on June 8, 2016, as they cordoned-off a school in Lurgam where Burhan was said to be hiding and eventually neutralised him. His killing sent the then state of Jammu and Kashmir into a seven-month-long turmoil.
