Nandurbar (Maharashtra): Two coaches of Gandhidham-Puri Express caught fire at a short distance from Nandurbar railway station on Saturday. Railway administration and fire brigade of Nandurbar municipality succeeded in controlling the fire. No one was killed or injured in the blaze, which lasted for more than two hours. Four hours later, traffic on the Surat-Jalgaon railway line was restored.
Sudden fire at Gandhidham Puri Express
The train started from Gandhidham towards Puri. While the train was at a short distance from Nandurbar railway station, a fire broke out in a pantry box in the express. As soon as it was noticed, the train was stopped immediately. The train passengers alighted from the train immediately. More than four fire tenders were pressed into service by the Nandurbar fire brigade. The fire lasted for more than two hours. Railway personnel and firefighters worked hard to control the fire.
Disaster averted
A pantry car coach caught fire in Puri Express. Immediately, the fire took on a raucous form. As there were AC coaches on both sides of the burning coach, railway staff and officials tried to control the fire by separating the coaches on both sides so that the fire would not spread to other coaches. The fire broke out in a pantry box in the express. The pantry box contained flammable items, including cylinders, which would have ignited a large fire. So the railway administration threw out the cylinders and other materials in the box so the disaster was averted.
Power cut off on the railway line between Jalgaon and Surat
As a precautionary measure, the power supply on the Jalgaon-Surat railway line was cut off for about two hours immediately after the Gandhidham Express caught fire. As a result, many trains got stuck and passengers were stranded. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, it is being speculated that the coach caught fire only after leaving Khandbara railway station. Meanwhile, even after such a big incident, the railway officials at Nandurbar railway station have refused to say anything.
The cause of the fire is still not known
Railway officials refused to give any information about the cause of the fire, but a preliminary estimate is that the fire was caused by a short circuit. However, the railway police and station staff at Nandurbar railway station took more than two hours to douse the fire, which has also raised questions about their efficiency.
