A request was sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Embassy in Oman seeking the conduct of the NEET exam in Oman via email on July 26. The tentative dates announced by Union Government for the exams are on September 11, 12.

"It is difficult to come to India in the current situation. NEET centres have been established in Dubai and Kuwait for students to write exams. We cannot travel because of corona restrictions, "said one of the parents. The parent urged setting up of exam centre in Oman similar to Dubai and Kuwait.

Aspirants also raised concern over the monetary burden they would have to shoulder in case of travelling to India. It would cost at least Rs 60,000 to fly from Oman to India and isolation would cost Rs 50,000, adding up the total cost to Rs 1 lakh.

As per sources, more than 500 students in Oman have applied for NEET, which comprises mostly aspirants from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Aggravating the crisis, students who reach India would find it difficult to return back as medical professionals are only permitted to enter Oman from India.
