Srinagar: Three unidentified terrorists killed after encounter broke out in Badigam area of Shopian on Friday. "Three unidentified terrorists killed, incriminating materials including arms and ammunition recovered. Search underway," Kashmir Zone Police reported.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. The encounter started between militants and security forces at Badigam in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday night, officials said.
The firefight between militants and security forces took place after the latter cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of militants there.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the militants were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.
Meanwhile, a Special Police officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police was killed and a policeman was injured in an ongoing gunfight in Beerwah Zaingam area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district.
The SPO namely Altaf Ahmad resident of Chadoora lost his life, policeman, namely Manzoor Ahmad from Sopore was injured.
A joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a massive cordon and search operation in Zaingam village in Beerwah, Budgam.
