New Delhi: Delhi Customs officials on Monday apprehended two smugglers for possession of 1 kg 57 grams gold worth Rs 45 lakh hidden in their undergarments at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
The accused had concealed the yellow metal in the form of a paste. The CRPF personnel based on specific inputs had stopped both the passengers at Terminal 3 of the airport on the basis of suspicion.
According to the customs spokesperson, two persons (receivers) were tracked based on the information provided by both the smugglers. The value of the recovered gold has been estimated to be around Rs 45,65,762.
Police have registered a case against the smugglers and the other two persons and further investigation is underway.
