Hyderabad: All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the national parties — Congress and BJP, for seeking votes on the basis of the majority religion in the upcoming Karnataka elections and wondered what happened to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Owaisi shared a video of Prime Minister Modi asking electorate of Karnataka to chant 'Jai Bajrang Bali' after pressing the button to caste their votes in the EVM. Owaisi extolled the audience during his campaign leg in Karnataka's Kolar to say 'Jaihind' on May 10 and the same was featured alongside Modi's video.

Referring to the Modi's fiat to Karnataka voters, Owaisi said: "What kind of secularism is this? Can this be even secular? I'm standing here and if I ask you to chant 'Allahu Akbar' when you cast your votes, the media will blame me of siding with the religion. But it won't utter a word when Modi did it."

  • What happened to Model Code of Conduct?

92% of Class 3 kids in Karnataka cannot read Class 2 books. Only 3.6% kids in the state get minimum acceptable diet

BJP & INC don’t want to talk about future of our kids. They’d rather compete over “Sabse Bada Hindu Kaun?”

"Congress and BJP are openly demanding votes on the basis of majority religion. Will Congress promise reconstruction of a demolished dargah in Hubli? It has surrendered its ideological battle with BJP. Will Modi be ok if I asked people to raise TAKBIR? The skies would fall," Owaisi had asked earlier. 92% of Class 3 kids in Karnataka cannot read Class 2 books. Only 3.6% kids in the state get minimum acceptable diet, he added.

The Hyderabad MP also took potshots on Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar for promising that the grand old party will prioritise the construction of Lord Hanuman temples in various parts of the state. The Parliamentarian said both parties were in a tug-of-war to find out who is more Hindu than the other. "Will Congress promise reconstruction of a demolished dargah in Hubli? Will Modi be ok if I asked people to raise TAKBIR?" Owaisi asked.

"We have a commitment to the development of Anjaneya (Lord Hanuman) temples across the state if the Congress party comes to power. Our party will also prioritise the construction of new Anjaneya (Lord Hanuman) temples in various parts of the state," DK Shivakumar had said.

On Wednesday, PM Modi said the people of Karnataka should abuse those hurling abuses by chanting 'Jai Bajrangbali' while casting their vote. "How do you seek votes here in Karnataka? Abuse Modi. Abuses are being hurled. Does anyone in Karnataka accept the dark culture (i.e,) a culture where anyone can abuse... a culture of abuse. Does Karnataka forgive those who hurl abuses?" PM Modi asked. "What will you do this time, how will you punish... when you press the button at the polling booth, punish those (who hurl abuses) by saying 'Jai Bajrangbali'," Modi had said.

Congress on Tuesday released its Karnataka election manifesto which talked of ban on organisations like the Bajrang Dal and the Popular Front of India. It said the party is committed to take firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred among communities on grounds of caste and religion. Karnataka will go to polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
