Raipur: In a turn to the Raipur newlywed couple death case, police officials on Wednesday informed that according to preliminary investigation, it was suspected that the groom had killed the bride, and then died by suicide. Bodies of the duo were found in a pool of their own blood on Tuesday evening inside a room where they were dressing up for the reception, which was supposed to take place later that night.
Speaking to reporters, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Agarwal said the husband and wife had a dispute during this time. "The door was locked from inside. While the postmortem report will clear things up, based on preliminary information, it has been established that the groom stabbed the bride to death, and then died by suicide himself" he noted.
The deceased Aslam (24) and Kahkashan (22), lovers-turned-newlywed couple, were married on February 19. The incident was reported to the police by relatives, who arrived at the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem to a government hospital. Forensic teams were also informed to gather evidence from the scene. Locals also noted that prior to the incident Aslam had travelled to the railway station to end his life, which was stopped.
Police official Rajesh Chaudhary, who is attached to the Purani Basti circle, said the bodies of the newly married couple were found in the same room of the house. Both the bodies bore knife injuries mark. Bodies have been sent for the postmortem examination. The incident is being probed.
"Autopsy report will make things such as who made the first move clear. Injuries on both the bodies were of the same nature. One knife was recovered from the room," the police official said. He also said the fingerprints of both the deceased will be gathered and an attempt to match it on the recovered knife will be made.
According to family members of the deceased the bride and groom were in love and both the families have gladly accepted their relationship which then progressed to marriage. A pall of gloom descended on the wedding reception.
