New Delhi: After Congress leader Udit Raj stoked a row with his tweet on Kumbh mela (fair), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vinod Bansal slammed the Rajasthan government for funding the madrassas and accused it of having a communal agenda.

Udit Raj on October 15 stoked a controversy by tweeting that "it was wrong" on the part of the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government to spend Rs 4,200 crore in organising the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.

The VHP spokesperson said that the Congress should also know that by expending around Rs. 4200 crores on Kumbh Mela, the government has also generated an income of about Rs. 1, 20,000 crores.

"Congress has spent many lakh crores on madrassas in the last 70 years, but did the Congress government has earned a single rupee?" Bansal said.

"No religious teachings & rituals should be funded by the Government. The state doesn't have its own religion. UP govt spent Rs 4,200 crore in organising the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad and that too was wrong,” the Congress leader’s tweet read.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came down heavily on Raj for his comments on Kumbh Mela and sought a response from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and his party on the Udit Raj's tweet.

A day after this controversy, the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan in its Budget 2019-2020, announced a scheme for the infrastructure development of madrassas across the State.

The VHP spokesman further said that those who cite Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution and talk about the rights of the minorities, they forget that there is no interpretation of minority in the Constitution. "How the second-largest population in the country can be a minority? Congress governments should not promote communal education at all. It's time for the Congress to introspect," said," said Vinod Bansal.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also accused the Congress of earlier terming Lord Rama as "imaginary" and now wanting to “shut down the Kumbh Mela”.

"Friends, this is the truth of the Gandhi family... Earlier, they gave an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying 'Lord Rama is imaginary... He has no existence' and now Priyanka Vadra Ji says that Kumbh Mela should also be closed. That's why the world says Rahul and Priyanka are "opportunistic" Hindus," he tweeted in Hindi.

Meanwhile, Udit Raj has said that the tweet was his personal view and one should not drag Congress into this issue. However, Congress has not reacted so far to the controversy erupted by Raj's tweet.
