Two militants killed in encounter with security forces in J-K's Kulgam

Srinagar: Two militants of of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Nipora area of Kulgam in south Kashmir following specific information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired at security forces, who retaliated. 

In the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed, the official said.

He said the identity and group affiliation of the slain ultras was being ascertained. Two pistols with ammunition and three grenades were recovered from the spot.

The operation is on, the official added.

It is to be noted that 68 terrorists have been killed by the security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir, in several encounters between April 1 and June 10, the time when the entire country was under lockdown to combat the coronavirus. According to the data compiled by security forces, the highest activities of the Hizbul Mujahideen have been recorded this year and 35 local terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen have been eliminated.
