New Delhi: Even as his party strongly objected to the passage of the Bill revoking special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, Congress leader Hardik Patel on Friday said that he supported the Centre's decision. However, he added that the Opposition should have been consulted.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, he said, "I don't question the removal of special status under Article 370. However, why are they (NDA) taking such a big decision on their own? They should know that the Opposition exists."
"Just because they won more than 350 seats, does not mean that they do not consult the Opposition," he added.
Patel is not the only Congress leader to have supported the NDA government on Article 370. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Milind Deora, Jaiveer Shergill, and Deepender Hooda favoured withdrawal of the special status to Jammu and Kashmir even as the seniors such as Ghulam Nabi Azad, P Chidambaram and Kapil Sibal were putting up a fight against the government's move.
