India’s only Sanskrit newspaper ‘Vishwasya Vritant’ published by Muslim brothers in Surat

Saifee Sanjeliwala & Murtaza Khambhatwala, who are running the only Sanskrit newspaper are relentlessly working as a bridge the Hindu – Muslims Unity. Both are an example of continuous striving for preserving of our age-old Indian tradition and culture through Hindu Vedas, Puranas and Shastric scriptures.

Surat: Sanskrit is a language which belongs to the Indo-Aryan group and is the root of many Indian languages which is also considered as the language of Indian culture and religion. But Sanskrit is now spoken by less than 1% of Indians and is mostly used by Hindu priests during religious ceremonies and to save this language, from further becoming extinct, some Sanskrit loving organizations are making active and wholehearted efforts.

You will be surprised to know that one of them is Surat's two brothers of Dawoodi Bohras Community who are trying hard to acquaint the young minds with the rich and varied cultural heritage of Sanskrit language with India's only running newspaper ‘Vishwasya Vritant’ (world news).

The paper came into existence on April 26, 2011, and has been continuing to date without a break. Saifee Sanjeliwala & Murtaza Khambhatwala, both are relentlessly working as a bridge the Hindu – Muslims Unity. Both are an example of continuous striving for preserving of our age-old Indian tradition and culture through Hindu Vedas, Puranas and Shastric scriptures.

The country has thousands of newspaper published daily in various languages, but hardly anybody knows that there is one Sanskrit newspaper which publishing till today.

The managing editor of the daily Murtuza Khambhatwala told ETV Bharat that he was attracted to the language and wanted to promote it. So he thought about a daily in Sanskrit. However, there were not enough readers for the Sanskrit newspaper and so he was about to stop the publication. But his maternal uncle Saify Sanjaliwala helped him financially and so the publication has been continued.

Shivraj Jha who was appointed as the editor of Vishwasya Vritant, says that there were many newspapers in the Sanskrit languages, but hardly any has survived. If there are not enough readers and government do not support such publications than it becomes difficult to keep it running.

This newspaper in hard copies and e-copy is read by Gujarat’s people along with readers of Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Delhi and other states. Many followers are actively reading this newspaper from various corners of the world. This paper is well accepted by a social, cultural and educational institution.

Without thinking about the discrimination and religious divisions, the brothers are trying hard to keep the tradition of Sanskrit language alive.

The efforts of these two brothers are really appreciable that they continuing to preserve the language through their publication amid a financial crisis, just to keep the tradition of Sanskrit alive.
