RPF conducts raids to check ticket touting

In a major crackdown by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), as many as 387 touts were arrested from across the country to check misuse of e-ticketing and tatkal facility, said a railway official.

New Delhi: In an effort to curb touting, the Railway Protection Force conducted raids in 141 cities under Operation Thunder on Thursday night.

Under the operation, 387 people were arrested for selling railway tickets illegally. The maximum number of cases were reported from Eastern Railways, largely in Kolkata with 49 cases of black marketing of tickets.

While giving more details about the Operation Thunder, Director General of RPF, Arun Kumar informed that 22,253 tickets, worth Rs 32,99,093 were seized. It was also found that the touts had sold tickets worth Rs 3,24,12,706 in the recent past.
"We are in the process of blacklisting all the user IDs used for misusing the facilities given by the Indian Railways. We are also in the process of deactivating the tickets which are being seized so that they cannot be used in the future," he added.Also, it was found that some software was being used to hack the Tatkal Sewa of the Indian Railways. The particular software was found in Rajasthan.
