Rahul's offer to resign suicidal: Lalu Prasad Yadav

RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav has claimed that Congress President Rahul Gandhi's offer to resign from the post is 'suicidal.' The Congress were reduced to just 52 seats after the election results were declared.

New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad on Tuesday said Congress President Rahul Gandhi's decision to resign will be suicidal not just for his own party but for all opposition.

The RJD faced a complete rout in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, while Lalu Prasad was imprisoned at the Birsa Munda Central Jail. He has not kept well and had also been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ranchi.

His Twitter handle says while in jail the RJD chief's tweets would be managed by his family.

Gandhi had offered to resign during the Congress Working Committee meeting held on Saturday. The CWC had not accepted the offer but media reports since have said that Gandhi is determined to find a successor and pass on the baton.

Intro:Taking lead from his 2014 swearing-in ceremony in which leaders of the SAARC countries took part, Modi government has escalated its bid to solidify its neighbourhood first policy by the inviting leaders of the BIMSTEC nations.


Body:The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson office confirmed it saying, 'Government of India has invited the leaders of the BIMSTEC Member states for the swearing-in ceremony. This is in line with government's neighbourhood first policy. The President of Kyrgyz Republic, who is the current Chair of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and Prime Minister Mauritius have also been invited.'

The Bay of Bengal Initiative Multi-Sectoral Techinical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) includes Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.


Conclusion:Sources have told ETV Bharat that Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina won't be able to attend PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony for the 2nd time in a row as she will on three-nation foreign visit.

In 2014, leaders of all seven SAARC members attended PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony which included then Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif as well.
