Chandigarh: Defying lockdown, thousands of migrant workers in Mandi Gobindgarh town of Punjab gathered for a medical check up on Saturday believing rumours that special trains would take them home, an official said.
The desperate labourers started gathering in the Mandi Gobindgarh of Fatehgarh Sahib district. According to the reports, to contain the public outrage, SDM Anand Sagar Sharma and DSP Sukhwinder Singh along with cops rushed to the spot.

"These migrants got mislead by the rumours that a Shramik special train has been arranged by the government to send them back to their home states. However, the situation was contained and many of them retreated. Further. cops have been deployed and the senior officials are taking stock of the situation," SDM, Amloh Anand said.
