New Delhi: A tweet on Monday morning from the Additional Director General - Public Information (ADG-PI) of the Indian Army, claiming to have sited the footprints of the mythical beast 'Yeti' went viral across social media platforms the next day.

While the Twitterati had a field day over the tweet, it soon took a political turn with some politicians joining the bandwagon.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter to mock the Narendra Modi government equating the 'elusive' Yeti to Modi government's much-hyped 'acche din' slogan.

"It seems that "Acche din" are more elusive than the #Yeti," he said in a reference to Modi government's promise of "good days".

Replying to Yadav, Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary took a jibe at both Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath by invoking caste politics practised by the saffron party.

The tweet said, "Now all that is left is for PM & CM Yogi to tell us about yeti's #caste!"

During a press conference, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sambit Patra also cited "mystery around Yeti" to take a potshot at Congress President Rahul Gandhi over his citizenship controversy following Home Ministry's notice to clarify his nationality.

BJP leader Tarun Vijay expressed his unhappiness over the use of the word "beast" for 'Yeti'.

"Congratulations, we are always proud of you. Salutes to the #IndianArmy Mountaineering Expedition Team. But please, you are Indian, don't call Yeti a beast," he tweeted.

However, Twitterati was less impressed with it and chose to have a good laugh instead.
