Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Ahead of maiden District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir, senior National Conference worker Noor Mohammad from Bandipora's Sumbal area has on Monday resigned from the party. Mohammad is known to be the right hand of Member of Parliament Mohammad Akbar Lone.

Announcing his resignation from the party on social media, Mohammad said, "Good-Bye to team JKNC. Today (Monday), I am resigning from the basic membership of the party."

"This is not the end of my political era, I will continue to serve my people... Much more to come," Muhammad, who has a good following in Sonawari, said

According to the party sources, Muhammad was unhappy because of not getting a mandate for contesting upcoming DDC elections.

On Saturday evening, Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Muzaffar Hussain Beigh decided to quit following after he was sidelined by the party in its seat-sharing agreements with other parties within the PAGD.

"NC is fighting on the majority of seats. It is not in the interests of PDP. I respect Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and I wish them luck. I am leaving PDP on principle,” Beigh had said, adding, "Today (Saturday) evening, I called her (Mehbooba) and told her about my resignation from PDP as a patron and a member."

PAGD, an amalgam of seven mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, on November 7 decided to take part in the upcoming DDC polls notwithstanding the ethical dilemma in the wake of abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent decisions taken unilaterally by the BJP-led government at the Centre.
