No place of corruption in present government, claims CPWD DG

Prabhakar Singh, the Director General of the CPWD asserted that there is no place of corruption in the present government. And if there is any, we need to wipe them out.

New Delhi: The Director General of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) Prabhakar Singh on Tuesday said that there is no place of corruption in the present government.

In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Singh said, "In this present government, there is no place of corruption. And if there is any, we need to wipe them out."

The CPWD which always make headlines for itscorruption cases has, oflate, taken a U-turn for an overall revamp of the decades-old organisation.

He further added: "We have brought so many technological interventions in the functioning of the CPWD. We undertook several national projects across India."

Amid controversy that the incumbent Director-General has been taking unilateral decisions in transfer posting of the officials in the organisation, Singh said, "Work centric transfer and postings policy in conformity with the probity guidelines has been introduced and implemented in the department, wherein priority has been given for deployment of the officers."

Since the last nine months,CPWD has completed 700 works. "Works amounting to over Rs 45000 crore excluding border works are in progress. Workload during the year 2017-18 of the department in equivalent terms was Rs 13495 crore," said Singh.

He said that CPWD has undertaken many constructionworks for IITs, AIIMS among others.

The CPWD has taken several new initiatives including in the e-governance sector. Works of AIIMS Jammu & Kashmir, Super Speciality Hospital Bhagalpur, Bihar, Film and Television Institute, Arunachal Pradesh, IIM Sirmour and New Medical Colleges at Hamirpur and Nahan (HP) costing over Rs 6000 crore have been recently assigned to CPWD.

"Online module for creation of data bank of CPWD officers of all streams having specialization in engineering, architecture and horticulture has been introduced," said Singh.

On July 312018, Prabhakar Singh was given one year extension period to serve as DG of CPWD.

Conclusion:The CPWD has taken several new initiatives including initiatives in eGovernance sector.
