Chennai: Two medical students in Tamil Nadu committed suicide over their performance in the National Eligibility cum Entrance test (NEET) exam on June 5.
Depressed after scoring low marks, the two teenage girls decided to end their lives.
S Ritushree from Tirupur district and Vaishya from Pattukottai had scored well in their board examinations but they failed to qualify in NEET.
NEET, conducted as a qualifying examination for the medical courses in India always had a contentious relationship with the Tamil Nadu government.
A Dalit student, Anitha was the first who spearheaded a fight against the NEET exam in 2017, who later committed suicide.
According to reports, Tamil Nadu's state performance is better than last year's. However, no student from the state has made it to the top 50 list.
